Being a celebrity comes with several perks. People know who you are, you have plenty of success stories and you most likely have a nice savings account. Most parents do their best to save money to one day give to their children to use to better their own lives, whether it be investing in higher education or helping them pay for a place to live. However, some parents believe that children should have to work for their own money. A parent that has this strict mindset is Gordon Ramsay.
Ramsay is known for being an extremely successful British chef and TV personality, being the main star on a series of different cooking shows, including “Hell’s Kitchen” and “MasterChef.” The famous chef has created a brilliant legacy for himself as he continues to make moves in the culinary world. He is recognized for having a great amount of cooking skills, while also having a blunt and brazen personality. It seems like there’s an endless amount of censoring that happens on his television shows from all of the tough motivation he gives the contestants.
Not only has Ramsay found great success in his career, but he also has a thriving personal and family life. He has been married to his wife Tana since 1996, and together they have five children: Megan, Holly, Jack, Tilly and Oscar. Despite the high amount of fame and fortune Ramsay has created for himself, he surprisingly has no plans on distributing his wealth to his children, and has made it clear that his children won’t even get a penny of his multi-millions.
Ramsay is a household name in the world of culinary arts and cooking show personalities. His talents and tough yet charming personality have made him quite popular, and have only added to his large amount of fame and fortune. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Ramsay is worth an estimated $220 million. It’s reported that he makes about $60 million a year.
Growing up, Ramsay’s family struggled a bit as his father failed at several jobs. At the age of 16, he moved out and found his passion for cooking around the time he turned 19. Fortunately, his pursuits paid off, and Ramsay is now recognized as one of the most famous and successful chefs in the business.
Nowadays, Ramsay is able to enjoy some of life’s luxuries, but doesn’t plan on giving his five children any special treatment because of it. According to Cheat Sheet, Ramsay and his wife Tana have five children who have enjoyed some of the finer things in life, but nothing too extraordinary. They’ve been fortunate enough to be able to afford excellent educations and have great living accommodations, as well as getting to use the Ramsay name, but it seems like their potential leg-up on others stops there.
Speaking with Travel and Leisure in 2017, Ramsay revealed that draws the line where his children sit on an airplane. While he and his wife typically sit in first class, he makes his children sit in economy class seats. “They don’t sit with us in first class,” Ramsay said. “They haven’t worked anywhere near hard enough to afford that. At that age, at that size, you’re telling me they need to sit in first class? No, they do not. We’re really strict on that.”
Back in 2019, Ramsay shared that he and Tana gave Megan $100 a week for her university needs, while the next three oldest kids got about $50 a week. They were told to use their money to pay for anything they need or want, including cell phone bills and bus fares. Oscar, the youngest in the family, didn’t get an allowance at the time due to his age.
Ramsay also has made it clear that he wants his children to make a name for themselves and to find their own career path and success in life, according to Cheat Sheet. Megan is interested in psychology, Jack wants a military career and Holly wants a job in the fashion industry, as per the Telegraph. Tilly has begun following in her father’s footsteps and has already shown great interest and success in the culinary world.
Although they have enjoyed some of the luxuries that come along with having a famous father, Ramsay’s children will have to work hard if they want to continue having that lifestyle. Speaking with the Telegraph, Ramsay shared that he has no plans of giving away even a penny of his hard-earned money from his multi-million dollar fortune. He plans on helping them a bit by giving each of his five children a 25% deposit on an apartment, but that’s it.
According to Cheat Sheet, Ramsay and Tana’s plans on not giving their children much of the inheritance comes from a place of love as they hope to raise their children to grow into independent adults who are able to make their own mark on the world.
